Why won't this animal's age update correctly?

What to do if you are attempting to update an animal's age and the calculation seems way off - e.g. the animal is 6 months old but the age is calculating a lesser age, like 11 weeks. 

This doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's disorienting for most users. 

The symptom: The animal's age does not match its DOB. No matter what you do, you can't seem to correct it. 

Why it's happening: The record will have a "dead" status in Status History. Shelter Buddy is programmed to automatically update an animal's age up to and including the date the animal was marked "dead" via one of the "dead" statuses. 
Because such a status exists in the animals Status History, it is only calculating the age up to that status date, nothing after it. 

How to troubleshoot: 

  • Check the Status History.
  • Look for a "dead" status in history:
    • Awaiting Final  Disposition
    • Cremated
    • Cremated - Communal
    • Cremated - Private
    • Deceased
    • DOA
    • DOA - Final Disposition
    • DOA - Released to Owner
    • DOA Transfer
    • EOA - Euthanised on Arrival
    • Euthanised
    • Euthanised - RTO
    • Euthanised / Cremation Request
    • Euthanasia in Field
    • Euthanised during Stray Hold Time
    • Euthanised by Offsite Vet
    • Post Operative Death
    • Unassisted Death
    • Unassisted Death In Foster
    • Unassisted Death in Transit
  • Once you've identified the status, go into  Admin
  • Find Maintain Status History for an Animal
  • Amend the "dead" status, changing it for a live one or, if appropriate, deleting it from history.

That will restore the record and make the age calculate correctly again.
